This is a record of my DIY (Do It Yourself) tour covering Tiong Bahru and surrounding areas.

Start the journey at MRT EW17 Tiong Bahru Exit B, which is inside Tiong Bahru Plaza. The journey can end at MRT (EW16 NE3 TE17) Outram Park Station Exit 8 or MRT (TE16) Havelock Station Exit 1 or MRT (EW17) Tiong Bahru Station Exit A, depending on where you want to go. Feel free to follow my journey in a way that suits your health condition, fitness level, and pace, to explore and capture your fond memories of Singapore.

As it was formerly a new cemetery built next to an older cemetery, Tiong Bahru basically means New Cemetery. Derived from Hokkien, Tiong basically means Cemetery and Bahru in Malay means New.

In its early history, Tiong Bahru estate was known as 美人窝 MeiRenWo, Chinese for “Beauty Nest” or 二奶村 ErNaiCun, Chinese for “Mistress Village”. This is because many prostitutes and rich men mistresses lived there.

Tiong Bahru has Tiong Bahru Plaza and other smaller places to shop, bookstores, plenty of beautiful, unique and conservation status architecture, beautiful murals, heaps of hotels, bars, bakeries, restaurants, seafood restaurants, eateries, the popular Tiong Bahru Food Centre with Michelin mentioned foodstalls and heaps and heaps of spas.
